Camping El Relincho, El Chaltén

camping el relincho el chalten

Located in Argentina’s trekking capital of El Chaltén, Camping El Relincho is a perfect base for accessing the many lovely hikes available directly from the campsite. A large enclosed communal area is ideal for meeting other travellers and preparing food indoors.  The bathrooms are uber special being very clean and modern design with ample hot water supply to enjoy after a long days hiking.

The good

Bathroom facilities were the best we encountered in our 2 months of travel. The communal area was well catered to allow you to cook and eat in comfort while meeting other guests. The car camping area had a set of fences to block the commonly fierce winds. Fresh water was also available to refill water tank reserves.

The bad

The price was more than we were used to but the facilities were good and we paying Argentinian prices. There were two horses at the campsite which seemed odd (again this is Argentina) but they were often loose and gave you a fright as they galloped around the corner unexpectedly! WiFi was advertised but a sign made it clear it was not available.

The awesome

Camping El Relincho was in easy walking distance to all the El Chaltén hikes. We walked out left to the Cerro Torres hike and returned after completing the Cerro Fitz Roy hike on one day.

Ever since venturing out the back gate into the bush as a kid, I've had a curiosity to escape and explore as often as I could. It's fair to say that my curiosity has continued to grow instead of fade as the years go on. It eventually came time to turn a few scribbled notes into some legible stories and travel tips for anyone with a similar curiosity as me.
