However, consider staying at Camping Las Bandurrias should you find yourself caught short and need a place to stay. Located a short 20 minute drive out of Puerto Montt in the town of La Chamiza.

The few well appointed sites have shelter, running water table and chairs and a fireplace. The showers are hot and there is a large entertaining area where Chilean families often gather.

The good

Facilities were quite good and the small family run campsite gave it a homely feel. Being slightly away from Puerto Montt it felt extremely safe. The Chamiza river running behind the campground added a very mesmerising backdrop to pleasant stay in a part of Chile many never stay to see.

The bad

One male stand-up toilet was not connected to the plumbing when we were there, so check the plumbing before going!

The awesome

As mentioned the fast-flowing river (even faster after recent rainfall) gave the campsite a very serene and peaceful feel.
